While we were at Las Palmas, and due to sail that evening for Teneriffe, an oil slick was noticed not far from the ship. The Port Authorities immediately suspected our ship and the ship was arrested and held in port until at least 0900 the following morning. The Company's solicitors and experts soon got onto the problem and it was found that the oil was not ours, but Russsian, and from a Russian ship that had passed there a couple of days before. After spending the night in port we finally got away at 11.00 |
